I remember the first time I met Jan, Steve was in a minor car accident, but I was worried about him and turned up on Jan’s doorstep and introduced myself. She welcomed me in, knowing I was worried about her son, and from that day forth she treated me as one of the family, and not only me, my parents as well as my brother and his partner. The best times were always at Christmas, when we would all gather round a huge table of food that Jan had prepared, the laughter and fun never stopped over those festivities, and anyone else who happened to be around was always welcome to join in our family fun. Jan always made everyone feel like they were part of the family. Over the years Jan and I have had great fun, taking the Mickey out of Pete, and even during her time in hospital, as well as her last short time at home, she was still raising her eyebrows and smiling at the things he did. Jan I will miss that smile, you were one of the kindest people I have ever known, and to me you will always be my other Mum. With much love
